Chamber Music Monterey Bay presents the Blood Brothers, running February 12 through March 7.

WINING & DINING

The world's leading international summit of the best food and wines — the 18th Annual Masters of Food and Wine — comes to the Highlands Inn Park Hyatt, Carmel, February 18-22. Attendees enjoy tasting rare wines and dining on food prepared by the best chefs in the world, with cooking demonstrations, pairings, and more.

RECREATION & SPORTS

If you want to play some golf yourself, try the less crowded (and less expensive) Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course: like Pebble Beach, it includes holes right on the Pacific. • The Central Coast's largest 10k footrace, the Together with Love Run and Walk, takes a looping course around Pacific Grove and past Asilomar State Beach; to enter, call 831-373-3389.

NATURE

February is the best time to try spotting eagles in Monterey County. During a guided Eagle Watch Tour on Lake San Antonio, you're likely to see both Bald and Golden eagles from the park's special boat. Call for reservations: 888-558-2267.


FAMILY FUN

Ariel Theatrical presents a fun-filled family favorite, Chicken Little, February 27-28, at their theater in Salinas.

HISTORY

It's especially romantic that the popular Steinbeck's Birthday Celebrations, February 28 at the National Steinbeck Center, Salinas.

SPAS & RELAXATION

Buff up for your own personal Oscar Night celebrations with a jojoba-based body polish at Spa on the Plaza. (And if you over-indulge at the awards, you can always come back the next day for a Detox Steam Treatment!)

SHOPPING

Maybe Tiger Woods has one, and Bill Murray surely does. It's a souvenir cap or sweatshirt from the AT&T Pro-Am, of course, available from the Lodge at Pebble Beach.


Advance Planning: March 2004

• The Dixieland Jazz Festival cranks up its ragtime jamboree at its annual celebration, March 5-7.

• Soup's on! At Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, as all our waterside restaurants and fish markets offer samples of their richest recipes at the Clam Chowder Festival on March 21. Call 831-649-6544 for details.

• Once it was the "finest building in all California." Now, it's one of the most historic. Come to Colton Hall's Birthday Celebrations on March 8. There's also an intimate chamber music concert by candle light in March; call 831-646-5640 for details in late February.

• Mark the arrival of spring by touring 20 of Carmel's finest art galleries during the Changing Seasons Art Event, April 2-4.

• The Sea Otter Classic is an unabashed celebration of all things cycling: a four-day jamboree (April 15-18) of fun rides, races, BMX and kids events.

• The 43rd Annual Wildflower Show blossoms at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, April 16-18; this is also a great time for walks in our parks and reserves.
